About Federico Aguilar Alcuaz:
Describing Alcuaz’s oeuvre in a few statements is a challenge. His mastery of landscape, portraiture, nudes, still-lifes, and his study of color contrasts not only in figurative works but most dramatically in his abstracts, along with forays into different media such as tapestry, cemented Alcuaz as a major artist locally and internationally.
Regarding his famous abstracts, art historian Rod Paras-Perez remarked, citing Alcuaz's musical background: “There will be bold colors as well as carefully nuanced, subtle passages…it is a visual focus, no doubt intense and frenetic…always with that imprint of a visual melody, sometimes breathtakingly exuberant, sometimes tinged with deep pathos."
