H.R. Ocampo

Dr. Rod Paras-Perez wrote a monograph on the works of Hernando R. Ocampo, also known as H.R. Ocampo, in 1991 including notes
 on H.R. Ocampo by Cesar Legaspi.

Featuring his works between 1939 and 1978 and selected poems by Ocampo himself.

About Hernando R. Ocampo:

H.R. Ocampo died at the age of 67 and was posthumously awarded the title of National Artist of the Visual Arts in 1991. Before he became a well-known artist, he was known as "Nanding" by his friends and family. Born on April 28, 1911, in Manila, Philippines, H.R. Ocampo was a self-taught painter. He does not have a formal study of visual arts. He took pre-law at the Letran College in 1928-1929, commerce at the Far Eastern University in 1929-1930, and creative writing at the Valenzuela School of Journalism in 1930-1931. He learned to draw and paint using magazines and later joined as a member of the Saturday Group with Vicente Manansala and Cesar Legaspi. 

H.R. Ocampo is a known modernist abstract artist. His works are described as art with unity, coherence, and emphasis. According to Dr. Rod. Paras-Perez, his works have a yin and yang, a man of contrast yet a complete man. No one tried to copy his style or was influenced by it but he was a master and a guru to the next generation to come.  Among all modernist artists in his time, H.R. Ocampo was the most eloquent and would write poems.
