About Dominador Castañeda:

Castañeda was the Dean of the UP School of Fine Arts from 1955 to 1961 and a mentor to many artists. He mentored notable artists in the Philippines such as Juvenal Sansó, Napoleon Abueva, and Benjamin "BenCab" Cabrera. He is honored in the Philippine Art as a painter, mentor, scholar, and historian.

He is often compared to Amorsolo and navigates his practice between the conservative art practice of his era and the modernist movements by Victorio Edades, et al. Nevertheless, he was known for his soft and gestural subjects that leaves an impression to the viewers. His invaluable contribution is the publication of 1964 titled Art in the Philippines, an academic study and survey of artists, and architects, working with different forms and media.
