"Confidence" by Jonathan Dangue

Jonathan Viaje Dangue’s path was destined to become an architect and artist. Dangue had an interest in art since he was young and his pursuit of architecture was heavily tied to his desire to improve his craft. Graduating from Mapua University, he got his license in 2011 and has become a practicing architect and artist ever since. He won the Grand Prize for the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Competition for the Sculpture Category that same year, and then the Grand Prize for the Architecture Category in 2012. He also won the Grand Prize for the Professional Visionary Category of BluPrint Magazine’s Annual Visionary Award Competition in 2011. He has since been exhibiting in different galleries. His first solo exhibition was in Art Verité in 2013, and he has since put up shows in Art Cube Gallery, Boston Gallery, and Art Lounge Manila.

Dangue’s style of sculptural work is abstracted, with a focus on contemplation. He is inspired by organic forms and structures from nature. His process of creating is by manual bending and twisting of material, which allows his thoughts to flow while he works, and every element, characteristic and part of the piece gains meaning. Thus, his creations become metaphors of his own personal introspection.
