Lauro "Larry" Alcala (1926–2002) was a preeminent Filipino illustrator and the "Dean of Filipino Cartoonists," posthumously honored as a National Artist for Visual Arts in 2018. Over a prolific 56-year career, he produced over 15,000 published pages and 500 characters, including iconic strips like Kalabog en Bosyo. A dedicated educator, Alcala taught at the University of the Philippines for three decades and founded its Visual Communication Department. He was a pioneer in animated advertising and a champion for children's illustration, leaving a lasting legacy in Philippine culture by using humor and commercial art as powerful tools for education and value formation.
