About Collagraph Printmaking:

The term collagraph roots from the word collage. In printmaking, collagraph as a technique relies heavily on the use of found objects, that when inked and printed, provides its own unique visual quality apart from other techniques and many different visual art forms. The plate, is usually a hard paper board (can be a piece of carton, Bristol or an illustration board) and we compose the visual elements through placement and adhesion of found material on the surface of the board. Number 1 rule to be followed is: the rougher the surface the higher the chances of it to catch ink. After composition and setting, we then seal the plate so that it stands the test of many prints.

Since we are inking and printing found material and objects that are stuck on a paper sub straight, In this technique our participants will have the experience to create forms and textures beyond the use of drawing. It will be a discovery for our participants, implying that not all art forms are bound to drawing as a skill. Also they will be taught how to use both intaglio and relief processes in one single work. Inking in intaglio will require them to hold the plate while brushing ink on the surface making it impossible not to soil their hands. Using relief on this will be just as easy as running a inked brayer on desired area.

For this workshop, Senior high school, college level and adults are eligible to take the course. We can accomplish teaching the whole technique to 12 participants in one whole 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM afternoon session.
